Detroit Regional Chamber 2011 Mackinac Policy Conference To Do List Announced

MACKINAC ISLAND, June 3, 2011 – With reflection on the tremendous speakers, insight and a push for Michiganians to embrace a “relentless positive attitude,” Governor Rick Snyder, 2011 Mackinac Conference Chairman Charles G. “Chip” McClure, and Detroit Regional Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Sandy K. Baruah announced the 2011 Mackinac Policy Conference “To-Do” list to close the 2011 Conference.

The Detroit Regional Chamber is committed to executing the following action items based on the conversation held at the conference:

1. Improve collaboration between East and West Michigan businesses and key institutions.

2. Incorporate Southeast Michigan’s leading and most promising clusters into the regional economic development strategy.

3. Work with Harvard Professor Michael Porter to convene the Great Lakes governors to accelerate the development of a Great Lakes "super regional" strategy.

4. Convene relevant institutions and leaders to drive the “Outsource to Detroit” initiative.

5. Convene business, labor and educational leaders to develop and document the factual benefits of doing business in a globally competitive Michigan, and the benefits of the global marketplace to Michigan.

6. Establish a mentorship initiative engaging graduates of the Detroit Regional Chamber's Leadership Detroit program.

7. Education: To be determined by assignment from the Governor.

The Detroit Regional Chamber 2011 Mackinac Policy Conference was held June 1-3, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The Conference featured national experts and change-makers and included a fresh approach to the Conference with a fully packed, faster paced agenda resulting in a tangible “to-do” list to help the Chamber’s efforts to re-invent and re-energize Michigan.
