Michigan’s health care and life sciences industries are among the nation’s top rated and hold potential for large job growth and creation opportunities. This session will examine how the health care and life science industry is creating jobs, bringing in millions of dollars of R&D investment and attracting a highly skilled, high paid talent pool of workers and patients from across the country and around the globe. |

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: Jobs in New Industries, Jobs with New Opportunities - Brighton Pavillion With the highest unemployment in the nation, business, civic and political leaders all share the concern that job growth and creation need to be the number one priority to transform our state. Emerging industries are leading job creation in Michigan today. A panel representing the public sector in areas of logistics, defense, life sciences and alternative energy will share insights on economic drivers and discuss realistic job growth in each sector. |

Breakfast Breakout Sessions 1. Correcting Corrections: Structural Reform to Michigan's System In the last 30 years, corrections spending has exploded in Michigan. Today the Department of Corrections receives more than 20 percent of general fund spending and employs one in every three state workers. Study after study finds Michigan's corrections spending significantly higher than our neighboring states. This panel will discuss the current state of the Department of Corrections and define opportunities to reform one of the state's costliest services. Panel: Jeff Guilfoyle, Citizen's Research Council Moderator: John Bebow, The Center for Michigan 2. Building a Path to Prosperity for Michigan's Supply Chain - Grand Pavillion The retention of Michigan's suppliers is a priority for both the public and private sector. Many initiatives are underway to help suppliers diversify into new industries and obtain assistance to remain competitive in the automotive industry. A panel of experts will discuss the infrastructure being put in place to help support growth and provide new opportunities for Michigan's supply chain. |
